South Moravia and the city of Brno

South Moravia, known for a pleasant atmosphere, hospitality and warmth of its inhabitants, has a lot more to offer to its visitors. This economically important region, with a favourable location along the border with Austria and Slovakia, has always been a strategic European crossroad.

The region of sun and wine

Here Christianity entered this part of Europe, numerous villages and towns were founded on the banks of local rivers throughout the centuries, vineyards and orchards were planted on local slopes. The regional capital Brno, the second largest city of the country, has a rich industrial and cultural tradition and at present is connected particularly with science and research.

South Moravia prides itself on numerous cultural, historic, religious, and natural jewels, some of which are listed as UNESCO heritage sites. Admirers of historic and Jewish monuments, as well as modern architecture will be satisfied. Among the most significant monuments are Villa Tugendhat, the functionalist jewel in Brno, and the Lednice-Valtice Area, a unique “man-designed landscape” with the Lednice and Valtice Chateaux as the biggest landmarks. History enthusiasts can visit the Špilberk Castle in Brno, the Slavkov (Austerlitz) Chateau and adjoining Napoleonic battlefield, or the fairytale Gothic-Renaissance Pernštejn Castle.

The region may also pride itself on its unique beauties of nature. The Moravian Karst protected area with fascinating dripstone formations will amaze all its visitors. The Bílé Karpaty (White Carpathians) and Pálava UNESCO biosphere reserves, and the Podyjí (Thaya River area) National Park along the Austrian border offer numerous experiences to lovers of unspoiled nature.

South Moravia possesses typical and unique wine-growing regions, rich folk costumes and live folk traditions, and also excellent cuisine. The local wine-making tradition goes back to the ancient Romans, whose legion stayed near the village of Mušov, and has survived to this day. Superb wines are offered throughout the region in picturesque wine cellars. Visitors may enjoy also the atmosphere of folk festivities in the South-Moravian countryside, including folk costumes, brass or cimbalom bands, and typical dances. All these treasures of folk culture may be seen also in the folk festivals with which the region has become internationally renowned.

Place for your meeting

To declare that South Moravia is an ideal location for holding a scientific congress, business conference, or meeting of top politicians, is not just an empty advertising slogan. Brno, the regional capital and the second largest city of the country, managed without the slightest problem to organise a summit of sixteen presidents of Central European countries with accommodation, congress services, and accompanying programme for top statesmen.

Moreover, the South Moravian Region has been purposefully shaping itself as one of the fifty most innovative European regions, and it is no accident that it has been nicknamed the Czech Silicon Valley. A systematic support of building research infrastructure as well as entrepreneurial start-up incubators, facilitating the connection of scientific results with production, is characteristic for regional administrative authorities and local universities, research institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and entrepreneurial sector. For almost the 400,000 inhabitants of Brno there are now over 80,000 students of eleven public and private universities.

The newly established multibillion projects, such as the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) co-financed by the EU or the International Clinical Research Centre (ICRC) built in cooperation with the Mayo Clinic, give Brno an opportunity to join the club of cities with top-level research and development in the sphere of advanced technologies. Both Brno and the South-Moravian Region have firm foundations to build on – famous local persons include the founder of genetics Johann Gregor Mendel, the physicist Ernest Mach, or the philosopher, mathematician, and physicist Kurt Gödel, considered one of the biggest scientists of the 20th century.

This genius loci as well as modern congress facilities available both in the city and the Region are taken into account in the concept of congress tourism development in South Moravia and Brno. The city of Brno is the centre of cultural, artistic, and academic events, the destination of visitors from all over the world. It is also a seat of the highest bodies of Czech judiciary, including the Constitutional Court, and, thanks to the large exhibition grounds with more than 80-year tradition, also an important trade fair city within the Central European territory holding over 50 annual international fairs. In between individual fairs, the exhibition compound offers over 100,000 m2 of covered area in 15 halls accommodating up to 10,000 persons. It is easily accessible, with a sufficient capacity of parking places, including a multi-storey car park.

Modern accommodation is provided in two dozen 4* hotels with a capacity exceeding 3,000 beds. Many of these hotels provide congress centres with high-quality technical equipment for political and business meetings, situated not only in Brno but also in other parts of the Region such as Mikulov, Znojmo, or Lednice. Spaces for social and company events in an original style are available also in the unique modern campuses of the Masaryk University and Technical University of Brno. However, conferences and meetings, the purpose of which is to “tune-up opinions” and strengthen relations in work teams, need not take place only in traditional lecture rooms or congress halls. For all those that want to extend their meetings to a new dimension and gain long-lasting experiences, South Moravia offers untraditional attractive venues. These include important historic monuments as well as exceptional natural creations.

For a long time, filling the free time of participants of meetings, company training or congresses with a visit to a wine cellar or a trip to some of the castles and chateaux has not been sufficient. South Moravia can offer a wide selection of programme packages fully utilising cultural and sports facilities of the region and corresponding to the season, and taste or disposition of the event participants.

A bit of adrenaline may be provided by a company car or motorbike race directly at the Brno Circuit, which hosts the popular motorcycle Grand Prix. A golf tournament may be organised on the Kaskáda Course located on the edge of the city, or in the town of Slavkov (Austerlitz) in the immediate vicinity of places where Napoleon’s army clashed with armies of the Russian Tzar and Austrian Emperor in 1805. An exclusive concert may take place in the depths of the Moravian Karst or within some religious structures; for a larger audience, a musical may be booked in the successful Brno Municipal Theatre. The Wild West atmosphere may be experienced in a theme Western town near Boskovice, while wine and folklore enthusiasts may meet at some of the South-Moravian folk festivals or grape harvest feasts. Those interested in sports activities may use numerous tennis courts available, a dense network of cycling-routes, and many other possibilities.

Incentive possibilities

A sit-down meal in a wine cellar or a trip to a castle or chateau is perhaps enough to diversify your meeting, company training or congress. However, if you would like to surprise your clients or colleagues with something really unusual, we will prepare programmes with particular content focused on experiences, learning, entertainment, and sports – simply packages with all the colours, flavours, scents, and ideas of South Moravia neatly wrapped.

Romantic trips in carriages and on horseback through the Lednice-Valtice Area

We can arrange romantic rides in carriages through the Lednice Chateau premises, either a regular transport from the Chateau to the Minaret, or special trips to the Janohrad Castle and other monuments of the Lednice-Valtice Area. Further, basic riding training for beginners, horseback trips for advanced riders, a wedding carriage for newlyweds, or pony rides for children may be ordered. The offer includes a sit-down meal with wine and regional culinary specialties.

The sun and stars seen from the Brno Observatory and Planetarium

Your programme may include some of the audiovisual projects prepared by the Brno Observatory and Planetarium located close to the city centre. On a clear day, the sun and evening sky may be observed. Foreign-language programmes available. Since commercial renting is only a minor addition to Observatory’s activities, such events must be arranged individually and booked long in advance.

Fairy-tale scenes in the Lysice Chateau

The Lysice Chateau is surrounded by a moat and terraced French-style gardens with originally designed pillar colonnade and covered gallery. The Chateau interiors with rich collections of furniture, glass, porcelain, and paintings, the courtyard and garden may host a company meeting or stylish garden party. On request, various other variations of the programme may be provided, such as floral decoration, tours with guides in period costumes, piano or period music, swordsmen fighting, fireworks, catering.

Relax on the Bata Canal

If visiting Moravian Slovakia, you should not miss the Bata Canal. Built between the wars, this waterway long ago ceased to serve for the transportation of lignite from Ratíškovice to Otrokovice, and today completes the amiable face of Moravian Slovakia. Several types of boats and houseboats specially arranged for educational trips, seminars, or meetings are available. There are cycling-routes running directly on the embankments along the Canal and Morava River, and numerous places of interest in the immediate vicinity for wine and history lovers.

Travelling the Znojmo area vineyards and cellars

Visiting the beauties of the Znojmo wine-growing area is suitable for lovers of wine and vineyards, wine cellars and good food, secrets, history, and beautiful nature. Original programmes will take the visitors to places where wine grapes are grown and the famous Znojmo wines are made – from legendary cellars and extensive monastery cellarage, to vineyards with ancient varieties, or to Šobes vineyard, ranked by experts among ten best wine-growing locations in Europe.

Wild West style entertainment

A Western town is a unique amusement park located on the edge of the town of Boskovice. Many events on request are held here annually, from small-scale meetings to large company events with a whole-day programme. Visitors may try various attractions – riding a horse or electric bull, throwing a spear, knife or tomahawk, shooting a bow, or panning for gold. The venue further offers open-air theatre performances, saloons and Wild West culinary specialties. Accommodation is provided in comfortable rooms, log cabins or tents.

Golf tournaments of “three Golf Emperors“

In 1805, one of the most famous battles of the Napoleonic wars was fought in South Moravia – the Battle of Austerlitz. Since three monarchs were personally involved, heading their armies, it is often called “the Battle of three Emperors”. Golf fans may fight a similar battle in the same location.

The three biggest golf courses in South Moravia are at your disposal: the Kaskáda course on the edge of Brno, the Golf Club Austerlitz in Slavkov, and the Sokrates Golf & Country Club in Kořenec at Boskovice, all with favourable accommodation within the premises.

Concerts, receptions, and entertainment in the Moravian Karst caverns

You may have visited the caves and caverns of Moravian Karst, but we can offer something more. Your clients may now enjoy the beauty of the Punkva Caves together with exceptional music experience at concerts of reputable musicians. The programme may include cableway transfer from the top edge of the Macocha Abyss to the Punkva Caves, or scenic motor-train ride from the Skalní Mlýn Hotel, guided tour in caverns, celebratory drink with sparkling wine, Slivovitz or Becherovka on the Macocha Abyss bottom, boat trip along the underground Punkva River, and a final reception.

An entertaining team contest in the folk spirit may present an excellent highlight of an evening programme in a wine cellar. This may include dressing a woman into a traditional folk costume, dancing, demonstrating skills in handling a wine thief and bottles. A popular event is the so-called Klobúková (“Hat on”) – a traditional boy’s game with a hat passing from one head to another. Breaks between individual contest events may be filled with the show of traditional folk dances and commentaries of experiences hosts. The competing teams can be put together in advance or “in situ”.

Adrenaline at the Brno Circuit

Do you wish to become a part of the fascinating world of fast wheels? The Brno Circuit invites you to the World Road Bike Championship, World Superbike Championship, and World Touring Car Championship, as well as numerous national motorbike competitions. For the general public, the Brno Circuit organises rides in their own cars or motorbikes and in-line rides. You can improve your driving skills in driving courses run by professional racers. For companies we offer clients days with the use of the racing track, mini-bike track, as well as an off-road track. Discover unforgettable experiences!
